Streaking Voodoos edge Canadians in OT

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – A Dylan D’Agostino tally 3:42 into overtime lifted the Powassan Voodoos to their third straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory as they edged the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 3-2 Saturday at Chelmsford Arena.

After a scoreless opening period, Tristan Simm put Rayside-Balfour in front 6:20 into the second stanza as he collected his seventh of the season, which temporarily put him into the team lead in goals.

Powassan came right back however notching the equalizer off the stick of Ryan Theriault as he finished off the work of Tyson Gilmour and Bo Peltier.

With the assist Gilmour extended a consecutive game point streak to eight in the process.

The power play allowed the Voodoos to take the lead late in the session thanks to a Cameron Moore man advantage effort from Gary Mantz and Ryan Bazzana.

Mantz’s helper helped him lengthen a point streak to 10 in succession, which is now the highest active run in the NOJHL.

The Canadians battled back to force extra time as Bradey Johnson joined Simm with a co-team high seven tallies with a marker at 3:42 of the third.

Heading to OT it was the visitors that won it when D’Agostino buried the game-winner with the clubs playing four skaters aside.

Nicholas Campbell turned in a solid 30-save performance to pick up the win for the Voodoos while Owen Johansson also played well making 38 stops along the way to help Rayside-Balfour pick up a point.
