Thunderbirds’ Gordon; Gold Miners’ Fyfe; Voodoos’ Gilmour named NOJHL Eastlink 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Soo Thunderbirds goaltender Brandon Gordon as well as forwards Tyler Fyfe of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Tyson Gilmour of the Powassan Voodoos have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Dec. 10.

BRANDON GORDON, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – In two appearances last week the Thunderbirds’ netminder won both of them helping his side extend their current winning streak to nine consecutive games.

The 20-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., product began by making 31 saves in a 5-3 road victory at Rayside-Balfour Thursday.

Two nights later he turned aside 28 of the 29 shots fired his way to backstop his club to a 3-1 triumph over the rival Soo Eagles at John Rhodes Community Centre.

Having come away victorious in his past seven starts, Gordon currently tops all NOJHL goaltenders in wins with 13 and also leads the way in goals-against average at 1.88.

He’s also second in save percentage at .940 and shares second in shutouts with two.

In 75 career league games with the Thunderbirds, Gordon boasts a 52-19 record with a 2.12 average, a .912 save mark and 11 shutouts.

TYLER FYFE, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Fyfe scored in all three victories the Gold Miners posted last week, which were all on the road.

He began by tallying twice and setting up the game-winner as Kirkland Lake won 3-1 at Timmins Tuesday.

The 20-year-old, who hails from Cloverdale, B.C., followed that up by notching another marker in the Gold Miners 3-2 decision over Cochrane Friday.

Fyfe then finished things up by providing the difference maker in a 5-4 overtime win at Hearst Sunday.

Presently riding a six-game point streak, Fyfe sits fifth in NOJHL scoring having accumulated a league-best 24 goals along with 21 assists.

Through 90 career contests, he has 113 points to his credit, including 52 tallies.

TYSON GILMOUR, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Gilmour continues to shine for front-running Powassan.

The 19-year-old from East York, Ont., added four points in two outings for the Voodoos in the time frame scoring once and setting up one more in a 2-2 double overtime draw vs. Cochrane Monday before adding a couple assists in a home win against Espanola Friday.

That helped Gilmour extend a point streak to 10 straight games and he’s also etched his name on the scoresheet in 19 of his past 20 contests.

He enters play this week fourth in league offensive production with 46 points having scored 14 times while doling out a NOJHL-high 32 assists.

Having skated in 82 league games to date, Gilmour has collected 107 points on 37 markers and 70 helpers.
