Voodoos add Big Defenceman

The Powassan Voodoos got some much needed size on their blue line by signing former Sudbury Wolves draft Pick Nolan Smith for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

The 6’5″, 190 pound defenceman who played Midget AAA for the Halton Hurricanes last year, was an invite to the Voodoos Free Agent Camp on the July 19th and 20th weekend.

“Obviously we really liked his size and he seems to be quite mobile for a bigger player.  He’s only 17 so we are excited to have develop his game in Powassan,” said Voodoos GM Chris Dawson.

Smith, a 15th round pick of the Wolves in 2013, is excited about the move to Powassan.

“From the moment I met Mr. Dawson, coach Wray, the ownership and their entire staff, I knew this was the organization I wanted to play for,” said Smith.

“I know being a VooDoo will not only give me the best opportunity to develop and become a better player, it will also help me reach my goals to play at the next level with my drafted team, the Sudbury Wolves. I cannot wait for the season to start and look very forward to being part of a great organization and community.”

The Voodoos are pleased with the signing and expect a very competitive main camp which will start on August 22nd.  The NOJHL expansion team has already signed 2013 Wolves 6th round pick Michael Silveri and as the Battalion’s OHL affiliate the team expects to have at least 5 or 6 Battalion prospects as part of their roster in 2014-15.
