Voodoos extend series vs. Rock with Game 5 victory

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos picked up a goal and two assists from Shane Beaulieu to help propel them to a 6-1 triumph over the Timmins Rock Friday in Game 5 of their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division semifinal at the Powassan Sportslex.

The result cuts the Voodoos’ deficit in the best-of-seven series to 3-2 heading into Game 6 Sunday in Timmins at 7 p.m.

Powassan would take the lead 4:13 into the contest on a Harrison Israels’ man advantage marker only too see Timmins tally two minutes later thanks to Derek Seguin’s league-leading seventh playoff tally.

On the power play to begin the second stanza, the Voodoos went back on top as Eric Mondoux finished off the work of Ryan Theriault and Beaulieu 1:42 into the frame.

Dylan D’Agostino added to the home side’s cushion a few shifts later to put them up 3-1.

Powassan kept coming and tacked on two more before the middle frame was complete thanks to a pair of Cade Herd efforts.

Beaulieu added some insurance 37 seconds into the third to help put the game away.

Payton Vescio dished out two assists to aid the winner’s offensive cause.

Christian Cicigoi made 20 stops to record his first NOJHL playoff victory.
