Voodoos’ Forrest makes 33 saves in shutout win over Eagles

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Powassan Voodoos rode the 33-save shutout goaltending of Garrett Forrest while the trio of Eric Champagne, Michael Silveri and Nicholas Siracuse combined for 10 points to help them soar past the Soo Eagles 6-0 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held Friday at Pullar Stadium.

Tyler Peters put the Voodoos in flight 55 seconds into the game as he scored his team-high 21st goal of the season.

A late special teams’ effort allowed Powassan to go up 2-0 as Jake Staples supplied a man advantage marker at 17:29.

It was the Siracuse show in the middle session as he tallied twice to put the visitors up by four after 40 minutes.

The Voodoos extended their cushion 74 seconds into the third as Silveri picked up his 11th overall.

Powassan then finished off the one-sided decision when Silveri collected his second of the night and No. 12 on the campaign to wrap things up offensively.

In all Champagne finished off with four assists to pace all point-getters in the game.

The shutout by Forrest was his second of the season.

Jack Hickey faced 40 shots in defeat for the Eagles.
