Voodoos knock off Rock 5-0

POWASSAN, Ont. –  Andy Baker tallied twice and assisted on another while Nate McDonald stopped all 34 shots he faced to post the shutout as the Powassan Voodoos knocked off the Timmins Rock 5-0 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Signed by the Ontario Hockey League’s North Bay Battalion earlier in the week, Baker showed why by joining Rhys Brown with first period markers that put the home side up by two after 20 minutes.

Powassan’s power play allowed them to tack on two more in the middle session with Gary Mantz and Dayton Murray connecting on the man advantage.

The Mantz marker allowed him to extend a consecutive game point streak to a dozen.

Baker added one more goal at even strength with 2:30 left in the session to round out the scoring.

Dylan D’Agostino dished out a pair of assists to help out the Voodoos offensively.

The win was Powassan’s sixth straight.

Matt Nixon faced 36 shots in defeat for Timmins.
