Voodoos rally for 6-4 win over Beavers

POWASSAN, Ont. – Tyson Gilmour tallied twice and helped set-up another as the Powassan Voodoos rallied for a 6-4 win over the Blind River Beavers in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

NOJHL CCM Hockey rookie of the month for September, Owen Robinson, continued his torrid start as notched his eighth tally of the season just 99 seconds into the contest while extending a current league-best point streak to 12 in the process.

The visiting Beavers upped their cushion at 7:14 when Max Khull joined Robinson with eight markers on the campaign.

A Powassan power play helped them get on the board later in the frame compliments of Tomas Yachmenev’s fifth for the Voodoos.

Action early in the middle frame saw the home side draw level as Kobe Desmond made it 2-2 at 1:43.

The back and forth affair saw Blind River go back on top on a Tristen Bernard effort only to see Powassan come right back on a Gilmour man advantage goal.

Cade Herd then gave the Voodoos their first lead of night as he connected midway through the stanza.

Powassan’s power play continued to produce with their third extra man marker of the night with Shane Beaulieu finding the back of the net at 3:38 for the eventual difference maker.

Down a man Blind River struck shorthanded with 11 and a half minutes to go thanks to Ryan Cullen to make it a one-goal game once again.

However Gilmour’s second of the evening added some insurance for the Voodoos at 12:21 to help secure the come from behind triumph.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Beavers by a 38-35 count with Christian Cicigoi picking up the win and Bob Parenteau the loss.
