Voodoos sign a pair of Michigan High School All-Stars

The Powassan Voodoos have committed to a pair of Michigan All-State High School Hockey All-Stars.

The Voodoos announced Tuesday, they have added forward Brett Lepisto and defenceman Kyle Hauswirth, both from the Hancock Bulldogs high school team located in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Lepisto is considered a power forward who received First Team All-State accolades and registered 48 points in 26 games with the Bulldogs in 2013-14.

“Credit to our USA scouts Vinny Pietrangelo and Cole Workman for finding these quality players,” noted Voodoos GM Chris Dawson.

“Lepisto is a power forward who plays a gritty game.  Our scouting reports indicate he also has great vision and can make things happen,” added Dawson.

The 1996 birth year forward is excited to leave the USA and join the Voodoos this season.

“The staff seems to be very professional,” said the 5’11, 180 pound forward.

“Playing for a new team, in a different country makes me very excited to get settled in. Signing with Powassan was a very easy decision. This organization is clearly all about development and advancing there players. I’m looking forward for the season to begin.”
Meantime, Kyle Hauswirth was on the 2nd All-State team and was a First Team All-Conference All-Star.  From the blue line Hauswirth collected 3 goals along with 28 assists for 31 points in only 24 games last season for the Bulldogs.

“Our scouting reports on Hauswirth indicate he’s a puck moving defenceman who makes all the players around him better.  While only 18, he brings some leadership being a the Bulldogs Captain last season,”  said Dawson.

Hauswirth had some junior options south of the border but he’s keen to join the Voodoos in their inaugural season in the NOJHL.

“I’m taking a new step in my hockey career, with a new team, in a different country and with Powassan being a new organization it will make it very easy to feel at home,” said Hauswirth.

“The staff in Powassan seems second to none, and have been very welcoming. Signing with Powassan was a very easy decision to make. I’m very excited to get the season going with the Voodoos!”

Lepisto and Hauswirth will be making their way from Michigan to Powassan this week as the Voodoos open their Main Training Camp on August, 22nd at the Powassan Sportsplex.
