POWASSAN, Ont. – A pair of third period markers by Hayden Webster helped the Blind River Beavers rally for a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Powassan Voodoos Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Powassan did get going 4:43 into the proceedings with Brett Richardson stuffing in a loose puck past Blind River goaltender Gavin Disano after a right point shot trickled underneath him, moments after a man advantage opportunity had expired.
Not done there, the Voodoos tacked on another near the midway mark of the first period with Chase MacQueen-Spence collecting his 10th of the campaign by darting out from behind the net and whipping one upstairs.
Early in the second, Blind River got one back off a good forecheck that was finished off by Caleb Minns.
Going back up by two, Jackson Buffam managed to get just enough of a play on a give-and-go to make it 3-1 Powassan before Andrew Tsotsos of the Beavers notched his first NOJHL goal at 14:18 as he used a defender as a screen and snapped a shot off the glove of netminder Alex Bugeja and saw it find its way in.
Battling back in the third, Blind River first tied it at 7:08 with Webster benefitting from a turnover before sliding a low shot past Bugeja.
He then tacked on the game-winner with eight and a half minutes remaining as he was sent in alone on a breakaway where he ripped one over the blocker to secure the comeback win.
The Voodoos did get their goaltender out late for an extra attacker to try and tie it and forcer overtime, but Disano held firm to record the road win.
With the triumph, the Beavers improved to 19-12-4-0 while Powassan dipped to 25-9-4-1 in defeat.
