Cochrane moves into tie with Powassan in NOJHL East following OT triumph

COCHRANE, Ont. – An Ethan Emanuel marker 2:41 into overtime proved to be the difference as the Cochrane Crunch pulled out a 4-3 decision over the Powassan Voodoos in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at Tim Horton Events Centre.

Both clubs connected twice offensively in the first period as Powassan book-ended markers from Gabinien Kioki and Seiji Martone around a pair from Cochrane’s Jonas Leas and Jacob Stos.

It stayed 2-2 until the latter stages of the second stanza when the Crunch took a one-goal cushion into the third as on Tristan Taillefers’ eighth marker of the season with assists going to Hunter Buzzi and Caleb Dolman.

Heading deep into regulation, the Voodoos connected late to force OT with Cameron Moore notching the equalizer at 17:55.

Moving on to the extra session, Emanuel collected the game-winner as Cochrane pulled out the win and earned the additional point in the match-up.

With the result, the two teams are now tied for fourth in the NOJHL East standings with 65 points apiece.

Powassan does however have three games remaining in their regular season schedule while the Crunch have just one.

Shots on goal favoured the Crunch by a 39-27 count with Zach Wickson picking up the win while Joe Vrbetic’s efforts helped the visitors earn a point.
