POWASSAN, Ont. – The highest-scoring team in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League added another seven-spot to their overall totals Saturday as the Powassan Voodoos went on to top the Cochrane Crunch 7-3 at the Powassan Sportsplex.

First period play saw the Voodoos come out flying as they skated to an early 3-0 cushion on markers from Cade Herd, Matthew Hardwick and Ty Nicholson before the contest was 14 minutes old to chase Crunch starter Carson Boutin in favour of Zach Wickson.

Regrouping, Cochrane countered by striking twice in the latter stages of the frame to pull within one as Kobe Barrette and Stephen Minichiello brought the guests closer.

An early man advantage in the second stanza put Powassan up 4-2 thanks to Hardwick’s second of the night and fourth overall.

Tyson Moore answered that for the visitors after that to make it a one-goal game once again through two.

Third period play saw the Voodoos put it away as they tacked on a trio of tallies to help secure the decision.

Scoring in the session for the hosts were Parker Bowman, Sam Ellwood and Joe Whittet to cap off the home ice victory.

Dishing out three assists in the triumph was Ryan Mills while James Orr and Dylan Gajewski added two assists apiece.

Owen Say made 30 saves to record the win for Powassan.

Boutin allowed three against on nine shots for Cochrane while Wickson suffered the setback in long relief seeing 39 attempts in nearly 54 minutes of work.
