COCHRANE, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading Powassan Voodoos continued to impress as they earned another victory Friday by defeating the Cochrane Crunch 5-2 at Tim Horton Event Centre.
The Voodoos got in flight 5:33 into the first period with Dylan D’Agostino scoring on assists from Cade Herd and Tyson Gilmour.
The helper for Gilmour helped him pick-up a point in his 11th straight contest and 20th in his past 21 outings.
Gilmour kept things going his way offensively as he scored on the power play at 17:08 to put the visitors up by two after one.
Cochrane got going 76 seconds into the middle stanza thanks to Mitchell Booth’s fourth as a member of the Crunch to make it 2-1.
A second Powassan man advantage effort put them up 3-1 as Ryan Theriault scored for a 10th time in 2017-18.
The Crunch pulled closer once more before the frame was done when Kyle Herbster picked up his 19th overall at 14:11.
On the power play once more, the Voodoos struck for a third time three minutes into the final session as D’Agostino buried his second of the night and 12th overall.
The visitors then wrapped things up with an empty netter from Brett Hahkala in the late going to finalize the outcome.
Herd and Payton Vescio had two assists apiece for Powassan.
Newcomer Julian Galloway was solid in his NOJHL debut for the Voodoos making 38 saves to register the win in his first league start.
Taylor Unruh meanwhile faced 36 shots in defeat for Cochrane.
