POWASSAN, Ont. – Cameron Lemcke tallied twice Wednesday on a night that saw the Powassan Voodoos defeat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Getting on the board first, the Voodoos’ Lemcke clicked on the power play 11:42 into the first period, while parked in front, as he redirected in a Jackson Buffam snap shot from the top of the right circle.

Staying that way until the latter stages of the second stanza, Powassan went up by a pair after Kirkland Lake put a pass back that was picked off by Alexander Bradshaw who scooped up the puck, darted down the ice, and sped through the defence before putting one over the blocker of Gold Miners’ goalkeeper Zachary Reddy at 18:27.

Picking up an early man advantage in the third, the visitors cut into their deficit when Alex McDonald was credited with his third marker of the campaign at 2:39.

However, the home side countered quickly to restore their two-tally cushion as Lemcke snagged a loose disk, moved around the net and came out the other side where he stuffed it in before Reddy could across his crease in time to keep it out.

Adding some insurance, Mike Levin finished off a strong rush into the Gold Miners’ zone by Rodion Tatarenko, which allowed him to bury a shot from the hash marks on an evening where he ran a point streak to six outings in succession.

Alex Bugeja made 24 stops for the Voodoos to register his 10th win of the season, which is a personal single-season best in his NOJHL career.

Reddy meanwhile faced 32 attempts in defeat.

With the result, Powassan improved to 14-2-3-1 on the campaign while Kirkland Lake slipped to 5-14-0-2 overall.
