Lemelin lights up Rapids for 3 in Voodoos victory

POWASSAN, Ont. – Francois Lemelin scored three times Monday evening to help power the Powassan Voodoos to a 5-2 victory over the French River Rapids in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Voodoos soared out to a great start, netting the game’s opening tally 24 seconds in as Lemelin beat French River starter Alec St. Georges.

Lemelin notched another just over three minutes later to put the home side up by two early.

French River battled back and got one of their own before the first period was complete as Taylor Karr connected on a man advantage opportunity for his sixth of the season at 12:50.

The Voodoos went up 3-1 early in the second stanza as Tyler Gervais-Rolfe knocked in his eighth of the campaign at 1:18.

Lemelin continued his big night as he finished off his hat trick at 8:45 to put Powassan up 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Tyler Peters added one shorthanded for the Voodoos in the latter stages of the third to extend their lead while Karr picked up his second of the evening, on a power play, at 18:11 to round out the scoring.

Daniel Walker dished out a pair of assists to aid the offensive cause for the Voodoos as did Brett Inall for the Rapids.

Mario Cavaliere made 17 saves to pick-up the win for Powassan while St. Georges stopped 52 of the 57 shots he faced in defeat for French River.
