NOJHL names its initial 3 Stars of the week for 2018-19

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday its initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the 2018-19 season.

Garnering accolades for their respective performances in Week 1 were forwards David Campbell of the Powassan Voodoos and Mihali See of the Soo Eagles along with Cochrane Crunch goaltender Shayne Battler.

DAVID CAMPBELL, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – An impressive start to his Powassan tenure saw the 16-year-old St. Joseph Island, Ont., native register six points as the Voodoos earned a pair of triumphs to open the season.

Friday evening he notched his first NOJHL hat trick, that included the game-winning goal, as Powassan powered past Rayside-Balfour.

Saturday he turned playmaker by doling out three assists to help his club pull out a late win on the road at Kirkland Lake.

MIHALI SEE, (F) SOO EAGLES – A two-game road trip to commence the campaign saw See pace the Eagles offensively over the weekend.

Hailing from Clinton Township, Mich., the 20-year-old forward opened up with goal and an assist in a road setback against the rival Soo Thunderbirds Friday.

One night later he tallied twice more, including the game-winner, as Sault Ste. Marie won at Elliot Lake.

SHAYNE BATTLER, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – On a night where the Crunch raised their 2017-18 NOJHL championship banner to the rafters of the Tim Horton Events Centre, Battler continued where he left off last season when he backstopped Cochrane to a league title.

The 20-year-old Cobourg, Ont., product stymied the French River Rapids on opening night by turning aside 45 of the 46 shots he faced in a 4-1 victory.

His save count was just one off his single-game high in his time in the NOJHL.
