NOJHL names its Players of the Month for January

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Saturday its respective player, defenceman, goaltender and rookie of the month for January.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – PARKER BOWMAN, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS: The 20-year-old Bracebridge, Ont., product had a productive January for Powassan, registering 21 points in nine outings to pace his club offensively.

In all, he scored five times, including a pair of game-winning markers, and dished out 16 assists along the way.

Six of those contests were multi-point point affairs, including his second career five-point performance.

Bowman enters February sitting second among all NOJHL skaters in goals with 32 and is knotted for second in overall league offensive production having picked up 69 points in his first 42 games.

His next point will be No. 100 in his time with the Voodoos.

DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH – ZACHARY SNOW, (D) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS: One of the keys to Rayside-Balfour’s unbeaten month of January was due to the play of their captain, Zachary Snow.

The 20-year-old blueliner from Acton, Ont., was great at both ends of the ice for the Canadians as they went 8-0 to begin 2020.

Snow supplied 15 points from the back-end for RBC that saw him score four times and help set-up 11 others.

One of his markers was a game-winner, that came on a penalty shot.

His big month has seen him move up to fourth in scoring among NOJHL defencemen as he now has 31 points in 40 games in 2019-20 on eight markers and 23 helpers.

GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH – OWEN SAY, (G) POWASSAN VOODOOS: Making five appearances during the time frame, Say’s side went on to win each of the them as he only allowed three attempts to get past him in 247 minutes of game action to wrap-up January with an impressive 0.73 goals-against average.

The 18-year-old from London, Ont., was equally stellar in terms of save percentage last month boasting a solid .978 mark.

In his past three starts alone, Say recorded as many victories, while allowing just one goal against, posting back-to-back shutouts and going the past 136 minutes and 20 seconds without giving up a tally.

Overall, his record is 23-2-0-0 with a 1.95 GAA and a league-leading .938 SV% along with a trio of shutouts to his name.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH – NICHOLAS DEGRAZIA, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS: Another cog to Rayside-Balfour’s successful month was in thanks to the efforts of 17-year-old rookie forward DeGrazia.

The Thunder Bay, Ont., native etched his name on the score sheet in all eight games and wins the Canadians had in January as he notched eight goals, plus a one more via the shootout, and doled out five assists for 13 points.

DeGrazia enters February riding a nine-game point streak and leads all league rookies in point-per-game average at 1.28.

He also sits second in offensive numbers among first-year skaters and is tied for eighth overall in NOJHL scoring with 46 points, in just 36 contests, including 24 goals.
