NOJHL names its Players of the Month for September

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday its respective player, defenceman, goaltender and rookie of the month for September.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – CALEB SERRE, (F) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS: Serre was superb in September for the Beavers helping his side start the campaign by going unbeaten in regulation in seven with a solid 6-0-1 record while earning a No. 16 listing in the most recent Canadian Junior Hockey League Top 20 rankings.

In seven outings to begin his final year of junior hockey, the 20-year-old Blind River product scored at least once in each of the them and averaged three points-per-game overall during the time frame.

With five multi-point games to his credit, Serre leads all NOJHL skaters in scoring with 10 tallies and 11 assists.

DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH – NATHAN BALKWILL, (D) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS: Bolstering the Beavers’ backend was Balkwill.

The 19-year-old from Coldwater, Ont., collected nine points for Blind River in all and helped anchor their defensive corps.

Along with a pair of markers and seven helpers, Balkwill produced a trio of multi-point games, which were all victories for the Beavers.

He enters October tied for second in scoring among NOJHL defencemen with his nine points.

GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH – OWEN SAY, (G) POWASSAN VOODOOS: In six starts to commence his NOJHL career, Say came away victorious in each of them going 6-0-0 in September.

The 18-year-old netminder, who hails from London, Ont., sported a 2.00 goals-against average along with a .943 save percentage.

Say also posted his initial league shutout back on Sept. 13 in a road triumph in Cochrane.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH – MATTHEW MINICHIELLO, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH: A month where he led all league rookies in offensive production, helped earn the 18-year-old from Toronto the nod in this category.

Minichiello scored four times, including one game-winner and three on the power play, and doled out eight assists for a dozen points in his initial nine NOJHL contests.

The Cochrane forward is currently on a three-game point streak and has etched his name on the score sheet in five of his previous six outings.
