Powassan falls to Pembroke in CJHL inter-league contest

PEMBROKE, Ont. – The Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL) scored twice in the opening 72 seconds to help send them on their way to a 5-3 victory over the Powassan Voodoos Sunday evening in a Canadian Junior Hockey League inter-league match-up at the Pembroke & Area Community Centre.

Setting the tone early, the Lumber Kings got markers 16 seconds apart from Luka Marinic and Brady Egan to grab a 2-0 lead in the early stages of the match-up.

Pemboke added another before the first frame was complete as Jacob Collins connected to put the hosts up by three after 20 minutes.

Powassan countered in the middle session to get back in it with Carson Lux collecting his first of the preseason at 1:11.

Continuing to rally, the Voodoos added one more in the stanza thanks to a Cade Herd effort at 7:55.

Moving on to the third period however, the Lumber Kings got goals from Brad Richardson at even strength and Michael Douglas, via the power play, to regain control.

Joe Whittet brought the visitors closer with a man advantage marker with just over five minutes remaining in regulation in what proved to be the night’s final tally.

Tomas Yachmenev assisted on all three Powassan goals for a three-point performance.

Pembroke outshot the Voodoos 48-27 in the triumph with Darian McTavish picking up the win while Ty Sparling suffered the loss.
