Powassan picks up 2nd straight shutout in win vs. Espanola

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos ran a streak of not allowing a goal to 130 minutes and 32 seconds Friday as they blanked the Espanola Express 6-0 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The shutout was the second in a row for Voodoos netminder Garrett Forrest who handled all 30 shots he faced to guide his club to the victory.

Powassan also got four power play markers in the contest en route to the triumph.

Aaron Dart had the initial tally during a man advantage in the opening frame while Eric Champagne one at even strength to put the home side in front by two through 20 minutes.

The Voodoos then tacked on three more middle period, via the power play, to go up 5-0 as Daniel Golba, Nathaniel McLeod and Tyler Peters all found the back of the net in the session.

Golba’s second of the night 11:29 into the third rounded out the scoring.

Peters, Kyle Moore and Jake Staples dished out two assists each in the win.

Kevin Labelle faced 37 shots in defeat for Espanola.
