GALLERY: Powassan powers past Rayside-Balfour

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos picked up hat tricks from Joe Whittet and Parker Bowman, while defenceman Eric Mondoux dished out four assists in helping their side dismantle the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 11-1 Friday in their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League home opener at the Powassan Sportsplex.

After winning 3-2 in Rayside-Balfour Thursday, it was all Voodoos in this one.

The game was put out of reach early as Powassan erupted for seven goals in the first period, including three by Bowman, two from Whittet and a singles off the sticks of Ryan Mills and Gabinien Kioki.

They tacked on three more in the middle stanza to reach double digits as Whittet, Ty Nicholason and Cade Herd all found the back of the net.

Jett Leishman put the Canadians on the board at 17:01 of the frame before Brett Shawana rounded out the scoring for Powassan before the period came to a close.

Seven different Voodoos produced multi-point nights in the triumph.

Owen Say made 25 stops, including one on a penalty shot in the second stanza, to pick up the win for the hosts.

Nicholas Heinzle started for RBC and suffered the loss, allowing against on 36 attempts while David Bowen handled four of seven in 11 minutes of relief.
