Powassan rallies to edge Espanola
ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos scored two third period goals in a 20-second span to pull out a 2-1 win over the Espanola Express Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Regional Recreation Complex.
Espanola grabbed the lead 11 and half minutes into contest as Joel Grandbois notched his fourth marker of the season.
After a scoreless middle stanza, the Voodoos got going with a power play tally off the stick of Jake Staples at 4:54 of the third as he supplied his 15th on the campaign.
Building on that the visitors came right back on the next shift and produced the game-winner courtesy of Daniel Golba.
Alexi Rivet and Eric Champagne collected assists on the play.
Garrett Forrest made 41 saves to raise his record to 10-1 on the year as Powassan improved to 18-2-0-0.
Kevin Labelle faced 42 shots in defeat for the Express who fell to 4-17-0-1.
