Powassan wins 13th straight

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The soaring Powassan Voodoos capped off a three-game road trip Sunday afternoon by winning their 13th consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest, a 7-3 triumph over the Iroquois Falls Eskis at Jus Jordan Arena.

Tyler Peters was an offensive force for the Voodoos in this one as he led the way with a hat trick and an assist for No. 1 Canadian Junior Hockey League-ranked Powassan.

Iroquois Falls did get on the board first as Dillan Bruce notched his third of the season three and a half minutes into the contest.

The visitors countered that however by tallying twice before the opening frame was complete on markers by McKenzie Gray and Daniel Golba.

Powassan kept coming in the middle stanza tacking on three more tallies to go up 5-1 after 40 minutes on a pair of goals by Peters and a single off the stick of Eric Champagne.

Steve Harland added to the Voodoos cushion early in the third while Peters capped off his hat trick at 2:52 to put his side in total command.

Shadow Reuben at 9:20 and Nathan Avery, during a man advantage, with six minutes to go added late markers for the Eskis to round out the scoring.

Peters and Harland also extended consecutive game point streaks to 13 each in the victory.

Nathaniel McLeod and Jake Staples chipped in with two assists apiece for the Voodooos as the duo ran consecutive game point streaks nine and eight respectively.

Shots on goal in the contest were 49-46 in favour of Powassan with Garrett Forrest picking up the win and Josh Horner the loss.
