POWASSAN, Ont. – Joe Whittet had two tallies, including the game-winner, and dished out an assist in leading the Powassan Voodoos to a 4-1 decision over the Espanola Express in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s regular season finale Sunday evening at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Whittet was quick to put the Voodoos in flight as he notched his first of the night 2:23 into the contest.
It stayed that way until the back half of the middle stanza when Whittet notched his second of the night and 23rd of the season to put the hosts up by a pair.
Powassan then tacked on one more before the session was complete thanks to Seiji Martone with help from Parker Bowman, who collected his 50th assist, and Tomas Yachmenev.
It was more from the home side early in the third as Jacob Peterson-Galema made it 4-0.
Espanola would eventually dash Voodoos’ starter Owen Say’s shutout bid with just over two minutes to play thanks to a Tyler Nelson effort at 17:48 that rounded out the scoring.
Getting the win in net was Say though, who finished with 26 saves to register his league-leading 31st victory of the campaign.
Express starter Carson Boutin meanwhile faced 40 shots in defeat.
