POWASSAN, Ont. – An early-three-goal outburst sent the Timmins Rock on their way as they skated to an eventual 5-1 victory over the Powassan Voodoos Thursday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Timmins was quick out of the gate as they took a quick 2-0 lead before the contest was four minutes old.

The Rock got the opening tally as Justin Charette fed Riley Dubois in the slot with a backhand that was whipped in past Powassan starter Alex Bugeja.

Just over a minute later, the visitors tacked on another when defenceman Tanner Hamilton cranked one from the point to put the guests up by a pair.

Not done there, Timmins tacked on another at 6:22 as Tyler Patterson notched his first of the season after Nolan Ring won a race to the puck and got it over to for a quick shot from the right faceoff circle.

Going to the power play midway through the period, Powassan took flight after Bugeja made a shorthanded stop from close range, which allowed his side to break out and saw Ben White snap one upstairs from a sharp angle on the Rock’s Gavin McCarthy.

Moving to the middle stanza, Rock went back up by three as Nicolas Pigeon finished off a goal-mouth scramble as 8:56.

A big glove save by Bugeja late in the period kept Powassan in it with Timmins taking a 4-1 edge into the second intermission.

In the third though, the Rock’s Charette provided some insurance by darting down the right wing and whipping a shot over the glove of the netminder and into the top corner.

A late five-on-three power play helped the hosts get one more compliments of a Caleb Van de Ven wrister from the right circle.

However, that’s as close as they got before time expired with Timmins earning the road triumph.

With the result, Timmins improved to a NOJHL-best 15 points as they raised the record to 7-0-1-0 and saw McCarthy pick up the win, making 31 saves along the way.

Bugeja suffered the loss while facing 38 attempts as the Voodoos slipped to 6-2-1-1 on the campaign.
