Rayside-Balfour’s Maltais; Hearst’s Griffioen, Powassan’s Martone named NOJHL Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Brady Maltais (Rayside-Balfour Canadians), Max Griffioen (Hearst Lumberjacks) and Seiji Martone (Powassan Voodoos) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Dec. 1.

BRADY MALTAIS, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – In a trio of Rayside-Balfour victories last week, the 19-year-old Dowling, Ont., product scored in each of them and amassed six points in total to help pace the Canadians offensively.

Maltais notched the game-winning goal and dished out two assists in a Nov. 28 triumph over Elliot Lake.

Two nights later, he supplied the tying tally and helped set-up one more marker before that as Rayside-Balfour got past Blind River in a shootout.

He then capped off his run with goal in a home win over the Soo Thunderbirds Sunday evening.

Currently on a five-game point streak, Maltais has registered 26 points in 24 outings so far this season on seven markers and a career season-high 19 helpers.

MAX GRIFFIOEN, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – The Hearst captain posted a pair of two-point performances as the Lumberjacks swept a weekend home-and-home with Timmins.

Griffioen, who hails from London, Ont., began with a pair of assists in a 5-2 decision on home ice before he scored twice in a road win over the Rock, which included his 70 career NOJHL tally.

Boasting four multi-point outings in succession, the third-year forward sits tied for third in league scoring with 42 points on 20 goals and 22 assists.

In 145 career NOJHL contests, Griffioen has scored 70 times and helped set-up 95 others for 165 total points.

SEIJI MARTONE, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – A career single-game high seven-point performance highlighted Martone’s week for the league-leading Voodoos.

The 20-year-old from Beaconsfield, Que., collected a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as doled out five assists in a decision over the Soo Eagles Friday.

He then had another helper Saturday in a narrow setback against the Soo Thunderbirds.

So far during the 2019-20 campaign, Martone is a perfect three-for-three in shootout attempts, which were a trio of Powassan triumphs. His prowess in extra shots leads all league skaters.

A veteran of 75 NOJHL outings, Martone has a dozen tallies and 31 assists to his credit in that span.
