Rheault and Gilmour tally twice as Powassan gets by Timmins

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos got a pair of goals and an assist from Gabriel Rheault along with two tallies and a helper courtesy of Tyson Gilmour to help them get by the Timmins Rock 5-2 Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.

Neither side would connect in a scoreless first period of play thanks to the efforts of Voodoos’ netminder Andrew Suriano and Rock goalkeeper Al Rogers.

Action in the middle stanza saw Rheault put Powassan on the board at 6:25 only to see Timmins counter with the equalizer two minutes later on Stewart Parnell’s 10th marker of the season.

Having a man advantage to begin the third allowed Gilmour to put the visitors back in front 38 seconds into the final frame.

Gilmour then added the eventual game-winner before Rheault broke it open with his second of the day and 12th overall at 9:35.

Dean Kiriacou did get one back for Timmins five minutes later, but Ryan Theriault iced it with an empty netter for the Voodoos in the late going to wrap things up.

Rhys Brown dished out two helpers for the winners.

Suriano finished with 36 saves to record the victory for Powassan while Rogers stopped 25 of 29 in defeat for Timmins.
