SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Credited with 29 saves, Soo Eagles netminder Gabe Rosek recorded his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout Friday as he blanked the Powassan Voodoos 4-0 in a match-up held at Pullar Stadium.
The Eagles got on the board near the midway portion of the first period, when Hayden Daca roofed a rising wrister from the point that flew past a screened Voodoos’ starter Alex Bugeja at 9:19.
Going to the power play late in the first, Sault Ste. Marie added to their lead thanks to Chase Tallaire completing a nice individual rush that started in his own territory.
Taking their two-tally cushion into the second session, the Eagles added another via the man advantage with Seth Ferguson notching his 10th of the season at 12:01 as he cranked a one-timer from the high slot off a Jacob Swiatek set-up.
It stayed 3-0 for the Michigan Soo into the third, when they converted yet again while up a skater as Ferguson notched his second of the night while cruising off a line change and ripping a shot past Bugeja.
Rosek did the rest to collect the win while Powassan was blanked for the first time this season, in defeat.
