GALLERY: Voodoos’ Bugeja shuts out Rapids

POWASSAN, Ont. – Powassan Voodoos netminder Alex Bugeja made 30 saves, including a pair of stellar stops in the game’s final moments, to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout, a 2-0 victory over the French River Rapids Wednesday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The home side got the eventual winning tally nearly five minutes into the contest as Jacob McClellan sent a feed from the corner to an open Rodion Tatarenko in front, who promptly wired a shot into the left corner for his eighth tally of the campaign.

Heading to the second stanza, the Voodoos added to their lead as Chase MacQueen-Spence banked one in off a French River defender during a man advantage at 11:47 from the right of the net.

Bugeja and the Powassan defenders did the rest in blanking the Rapids, that was secured with a sprawling pad save just prior to time expiring in the third.

As for French River starter Cole Sheffield, he saw 20 pucks put his way in suffering the narrow defeat.
