The Powassan Voodoos have named Ty Pracek (pronounced PRAH-CHEK) the sixth head coach in franchise history, the club announced on Thursday.
The 33-year-old Mississauga, Ontario product spent the last two seasons as a head coach in the NOJHL between the Iroquois Falls Storm and, most recently, the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with such a great organization,” said Pracek.
“As a team, we are going to continue on the path of excellence we’ve seen for so many years, with new flair. Our goal is to bring great hockey to the town of Powassan with a team that has a high compete level, great culture, and strong character. We will emphasize the development of our players and ultimately strive to bring home another championship!”
Pracek joins the Voodoos, replacing longtime Voodoos head coach Peter Goulet, who is taking on an assistant coaching position with the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League.
Jim Bruce, team owner and president, along with Chris Dawson, Voodoos general manager, went through a rigorous interview process with multiple qualified candidates before deciding on Pracek to lead the Voodoos behind the bench in 2026-27.
“We certainly were not short of quality candidates,” said Dawson.
“We said from the start, we didn’t want to fit a square plug in a round hole, and Ty certainly showed us he is the right fit for this new challenge in Powassan,” added Dawson about Pracek, who is also a Hockey Canada certified skills coach.
“He is motivated, organized and feels strongly that he can get the most out of our core group and new prospects.”
In the meantime, Pracek will connect with staff and his new players in the next few weeks before assembling at Main Camp in Powassan on August 21.
Dawson also notes that Goulet will remain on with the club this summer, assisting with main camp recruiting and operating the team’s golf tournament, which will take place August 20 at Osprey Links in Callander.
