BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos got a goal in each period Sunday afternoon to help them defeat the Elliot Lake Vikings 3-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League neutral site affair held at the Blind River Community Centre.
Powassan needed just 25 seconds to get on the board off a two-on-one where Darby McCarthy pulled up on the right side and ripped a shot past Elliot Lake netminder Matthew Vahramian.
Still 1-0 Voodoos into the second stanza, another quick strike saw them add another, just 1:48 in with Parker McLelland pumping in a bouncing puck from the top of the circles.
A late man advantage helped the Vikings get on the board when Anthony Bertrand bagged his first NOJHL goal off some nice puck movement before he whipped in his attempt from the right side that eluded goalkeeper Daniel Dirracolo.
Powassan however added some insurance midway through the third, when Caleb Dawson found himself free and front and snapped a shot into the ride corner to round out the scoring.
With the victory, the Voodoos move to 7-2-0-1 on the year while with the setback, the Vikings dropped to 2-7-1-1.
