COPPER CLIFF, ON – Eric Champagne scored his second goal of the game at 1:57 of overtime to give the Sudbury Nickel Barons a 5-4 overtime win over the Powassan Voodoos on Wednesday night at the McClelland Arena.
The Voodoos forced the extra time in the final minute as Jake Staples evened the score a 4-4 at 19:28 of the third period.
Staples and Champagne, two former midget and Jr. Trappers, were both teammates with the English River Miners of the SIJHL before each were moved to the Voodoos and Nickel Barons at the CJHL trade deadline on January 10th.
Steve Harland, Kyle Moore and Brendan D’Agostino had the other goals for the Voodoos in the loss. Harland finished the night with 1 goal and 2 assists.
Matt Young made 34 saves in the Voodoos OT loss.
The Voodoos record falls to 11-17-0-7 on the season.
The Voodoos are back on the road Friday when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie and take on the Soo Thunderbirds at the Essar Centre. Puck drop is set at 7:30 p.m.
