POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos trio of Seiji Martone, Gregory Trudeau-Paquet and Parker Bowman combined for 17 points in helping their side ground the Soo Eagles 9-3 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
The hometown Voodoos would open the scoring 3:18 into the contest on Trudeau-Paquet’s 15th tally of the season.
However, Sault Ste. Marie countered with the equalizer moments after a power play had expired on Dominic Skrelja’s 14th which knotted the affair at 1-1.
Answering that, the Voodoos went back on top midway through the first compliments of Tomas Yachmenev.
Not done there, the hosts tacked on two more before the frame was complete thanks to tallies from Bowman and Martone.
It was more from the Powassan duo in the middle stanza as they both scored again in put them up 6-1 after 40 minutes.
Adding strikes from Trudeau-Paquet and Cade Herd before the period was 60 seconds added to the Voodoos cushion.
Ryan Dacks got one back for the Soo moments later before teammate Cameron Parrott’s first of the season, which came during a man advantage at 16:01, made it 8-3.
In the late going, Joe Whittet finished off the scoring for Powassan as the league-leaders returned to the win column following a pair of defeats.
Martone ended up with a career single-game-best seven points in the decision while Trudeau-Paquet picked up six and Bowman four.
Owen Say made 28 saves to record the win for Powassan.
Eagles starter Shane Brancato suffered the loss, allowing five against on 28 attempts while Ryan Gilmore stopped 21 of 25 in defeat for the Eagles, who saw an eight-game winning streak come to a close with the result.
