Voodoos ink Battalion netminder

The Powassan Voodoos wrapped up their second and final prospects camp on a positive note.

Battalion goaltending prospect Garrett Forrest has signed with the Voodoos, the club announced on Sunday.

Forrest, who attended the camp, was a 10th round selection by the Battalion in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.

The Ashburn, Virginia product played last season with the Detroit Little Caesar’s U-18 team where he finished his final season of midget with a stingy 2.64 goals against average.

The 18-year-old was one of the 38 players on the ice for the Voodoos camp at Pete Palangio arena on the weekend.

“We have made some tremendous strides since we first hit the ice as an organization a year ago at our first ever prospects camp at Pete Palangio arena last July,” said Voodoos GM and VP of Hockey Operations Chris Dawson.

“The signing of Forrest is another step in the right direction as we continue to try to build on our late season success. He’s an athletic and competitive netminder and he certainly showed that at our camp this weekend.”

Forrest is excited about the opportunity to play for the North Bay Battalion affiliate club.

“I am extremely honoured as a U.S. born player to be given the opportunity to join such a quality organization like the Voodoos,” said Forrest.

“I look forward to working hard with my teammates to bring a championship title to Powassan.”

The Voodoos expect to make another pair of key signing announcements later this week.
