The Powassan Voodoos added some speed up front with the addition of 2006 birth year forward Riley Misa, the club announced on Monday.

Misa joined 40 other skaters at Voodoos main camp which opened this weekend at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The 5’9”, 165 pound forward joins the Voodoos from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U18 AAA squad, after starting the 2023-24 season with the St. Michael’s Buzzers of the OJHL.

“Joining this young team is very interesting and exciting as we look to go all the way this year,” said Misa.

“I bring a fast and strong two-way game and I want to help the team in any situation I can.”

Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, has been watching Misa develop as a hockey player for the past two seasons. So getting Misa to sign this off-season was high on the coaches wish list.

“Riley Misa is a young man I started pursuing when he was 16 years old,” said Goulet.

“All of us in the Powassan organization are very excited to have him join our team. He’s a very talented player that can make plays. The nice thing about him is although he’s offensively gifted his game without the puck is pretty good. He’s does a great job at creating turnovers, when it comes to creating turnovers he reminds me of Caleb Dawson as I thought last year he was the best at stealing pucks or creating turnovers.”

Misa and the Voodoos will begin pre season action on Tuesday as they travel south to compete in the Cottage Cup Showcase hosted by the Collingwood Blues of the OJHL.

The Voodoos open play on Tuesday, August 27 when they clash with the Trenton Golden Hawks at 3 p.m. at the Wasaga Beach Arena.
