The Powassan Voodoos continue to help players move on after junior as 20-year-old defenceman Nicholas Liotino has committed to NCAA D-III Suffolk University and compete with the Rams’ men’s hockey program.
Liotino joins Voodoos goaltender Kannon Flageolle who also committed to the Rams program earlier this spring.
Liotino is excited to learn from head coach and former Stanley Cup champion Shawn McEachern.
“Coach Shawn has so much great experience and I am excited to learn from him and help the team win next season,” said Liotino.
“I am also looking forward to furthering my academics as part of the top-rated Sawyer Business School.”
Liotino, who joined the Voodoos in the fall, netted 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 41 regular season games in 2022-23.
“Playing for the Voodoos has been an incredible experience,” said the Commerce Township, Michigan product.
“The community support is amazing. I wish I could have been part of this outstanding organization the entire season. Coach Peter Goulet and Coach Hardiman have been so helpful and allowed me to become a better and more confident player. Their knowledge and support have helped me elevate my game and prepare me to play college hockey.”
Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach and VP of hockey operations says Liotino has been a big part of the Voodoos blueline this season.
“Nicholas Liotino is an elite skating left shot Dman that can play in all situations, we acquired Liotino on October 27, 2022, since acquiring him he instantly made our team better,” said Goulet.
“We are proud to say that Nicholas Liotino will continue his education and hockey career at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts.”
Liotino is now the fifth Voodoos player to commit to a hockey opportunity at the University level in Canada or the US. He joins Flageolle, Liam Serviss, Chase Strychaluk and Conor O’Brien.
