Voodoos roll to 9th straight win

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos multiple-point nights from six different players to help skate to their ninth consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Saturday as they defeated the Iroquois Falls Eskis 7-2 at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Iroquois Falls did get on the board first in this one thanks to Garrett Medina’s initial tally of the season at 5:39.

Powassan answered that with a couple of late markers to take a 2-1 lead after one period of play on efforts supplied by Nathaniel McLeod and Bo Peltier.

The Voodoos ran their lead to 4-1 after 40 minutes with a pair of power play goals by Jake Staples at 14:23 and McLeod’s second of the evening with 58 seconds left in the middle stanza.

Powassan went up by four early in the third thanks to a Nicky Grose man advantage effort in the first minute.

Cameron Boutin’s first brought the Eskis closer at 8:40 of the third, but Powassan put the game away as Grose added another on the power play at 9:35 while Tyler Gervais-Rolfe tacked on one with the extra at 10:57 to round out the scoring.

Nicholas Siracuse chipped in with three assists to aid the Voodoos offensively while Steve Harland, Tyler Peters and Staples chipped in with a couple of helpers each.

Powassan held the edge in shots by a 50-26 with Mario Cavaliere picking up the win and Josh Horner the loss.
