The Powassan Voodoos stayed close to home signing North Bay U18 AAA Trappers forward Caleb Dawson, the club announced Sunday.
Dawson, a Battalion second round pick from the 2023 U18 Draft, netted 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in only 21 games with the U18 Trappers who won the Great North U18 playoff championship this spring.

“It’s exciting to play on a local team, I am really looking forward to it,” said the 17-year-old who a going into grade 12 at Chippewa in the fall.“Being picked by the Battalion and having an opportunity to play with their affiliate team is awesome.”

Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, had Dawson practice and get into two regular season games with the Voodoos as an affiliate last year.

The veteran coach is excited to bring the versatile 6’2”, 175 pound forward to his lineup for 2023-24.

“Caleb has great size, is a solid skater and has the ability to score goals. When you looked at his points per game, he led the Great North U18 League in that category. If he doesn’t break his hand he probably leads the league in scoring,” said Goulet.

“He’s a tremendous kid and looking forward to coaching him and watching him develop. He has so much upside, he is going to be so good once he gets his first year under his belt and I know a lot of other teams had interest in him and for him to choose to stay home and play with us is huge for our organization.”

Dawson will join his teammates on August 24 for the start of Voodoos main camp in Powassan.
