Voodoos soar over Blind River

POWASSAN, Ont. – After being humbled in their last outing, the Powassan Voodoos responded in a big way as they blasted the Blind River Beavers 6-0 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Saturday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Dayton Murray staked the home side to the eventual game-winner six and a half minutes into the match-up.

Powassan then struck twice more in the final minute of the first as Tyler Gervais-Rolfe and Cameron Moore notched markers 36 seconds apart to make it 3-0 after one.

Murray added another during a Voodoos power play at 7:04 of the second while teammate Rhys Brown celebrated his first of the season just over four minutes later to extend the Voodoos cushion.

A man advantage opportunity allowed Murray complete a hat trick with the lone effort of the third as he capped off the night’s scoring at with 8:08 to go.

Cade Herd, Ryan Theriault and Eric Nagy helped the Powassan offensive cause with two assists apiece.

Nate McDonald made 28 saves to record his first NOJHL shutout for the Voodoos.

Myles Hektor started for the Beavers and suffered the loss as he gave up four goals against on 19 attempts in 27 minutes of work.

Wes Werner came in after the fourth Powassan marker and handled 26 of 28 shots in relief.
