POWASSAN, Ont. – A Tomas Yachmenev marker four minutes and 37 seconds into the first period held up as the game-winner as the surging Powassan Voodoos won their 14th Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game in a row Friday as they went on to edge the Cochrane Crunch 2-0 Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
The hometown Voodoos got that Yachmenev effort early on as he buried his eighth of the season while also extending a consecutive game point streak to six in the process.
Powassan pumped 39 shots on Cochrane starter Zach Wickson through the rest of the period and the second stanza as well but the Crunch stopper kept his side in it as the score stayed 1-0 heading into the third.
It remained that way until the late going when Ryan Mills put one into an empty net at 19:35 to add some insurance while also giving him points in 11 straight games.
Making 23 saves to record his second shutout of the season was Voodoos netminder Luke Greenwood.
Dickson did his part between the pipes finishing with 45 stops in the narrow defeat for the Crunch.
