GALLERY: Voodoos winning streak reaches at Lucky 13

POWASSAN, Ont. The surging Powassan Voodoos skated out to a three-goal lead after one period of play and never trailed as they skated to their 13th consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory, as they went on to defeat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-1 Tuesday evening at the Powassan Sportsplex.

While it was scoreless through the opening half of the first frame, the Voodoos took flight after that striking three times to gain the edge.

Ty Nicholson tallied twice, just 26 seconds apart, to put Powassan in flight before teammate Tomas Yachmenev supplied a shorthanded marker in the final minute to extend the lead to three while extending a point streak to five.

Kirkland Lake got one back deep into the middle stanza as Anthony Vidrick set-up Jacob Hiltz for his second goal of the campaign at 18:33.

It remained 3-1 for the home side until late in regulation when Riley Pitt’s first NOJHL goal secured the win.

Chipping in with two assists apiece for the Voodoos was Seiji Martone and Cade Herd.

Powassan netminder Owen Say was solid making 30 saves to earn his 11th straight victory to commence his career in the league.

Gold Miners’ goalkeeper Kohl Reddy finished with 32 stops in defeat.
