POWASSAN, Ont. – A young Powassan Voodoos roster built up a 3-0 second period lead and held on for a 5-3 win over the visiting French River Rapids Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League exhibition action at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Former North Bay U18 AAA Trappers forward Anthony Boyes led the way offensively with a pair of goals for the Voodoos.

Singles went to Tyler Genovese, Gabriel Grabonopoulos, and Cain Savage.

Carson Ruddy, a 2008 birth-year Bay U18 Trappers netminder, got the win in goal, stopping all six shots he faced in the second period as three goaltenders split the duties for the Voodoos.

Miles Gordon got the start and made a pair of spectacular saves to keep the Rapids off the scoresheet in the first frame as he finished with seven saves in his NOJHL debut.

North Central U18 AAA Predators netminder Nolan Nichol allowed all three goals in the 12 shots he faced in the third period as the Rapids tried to mount a comeback.

A pair of 2008 forwards from the Trappers also impressed in Cameron Lockhart and Ben Brunton as they continued their solid training camp with the Voodoos.

Cody Jessop, Mathew Shulist, and Matthew Stringer notched the tallies for the Rapids.

Ben Dyer started for French River and made 25 saves in approximately 30 minutes work while Elijah Grant handled 13 of 16 attempts in relief.

The two teams meet up again Thursday in a 6 p.m. start at Noelville Arena.
