Former Voodoos’ standout Say on NCAA goaltending award Watch List

SUDBURY, Ont. – Former Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League standout Owen Say is one of 41 netminders currently on the Watch List for the Mike Richter Award, which is given annually to the top goalkeeper in men’s NCAA Division I hockey.

Currently a freshman at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Penn., Say starred in the NOJHL with the Powassan Voodoos during the 2019-20 campaign, where he was named a 1st Team All-Star in net.

In 36 appearances that season with the Voodoos, the London, Ont., product led all NOJHL netminders in victories with 31 and was tops in save percentage at .941.

Say also sported a goals-against average of 1.90, was a member of the silver medal-winning Team Canada East side at the World Junior A Challenge and a finalist for Canadian Junior Hockey League top goaltender laurels, as part of his time in the league.

A committee of voters, consisting of a combination of coaches, administrators, scouts and media will whittle down the list to 15 next month, with the winner of the Richter Award being announced at the NCAA Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla., in April.
