Early outburst sends Powassan past Iroquois Falls
POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos exploded for eight first period goals while affiliate player Andy Baker had six points in his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League debut as part of a convincing 16-0 triumph against the Iroquois Falls Eskis at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Aaron Dart began the offensive outburst 2:38 into the contest with his ninth of the season.
The Voodoos another 46 seconds later as Jake Staples notched his 25th of the campaign to make it 2-0.
Powassan kept coming adding tallies from Daniel Walker and Kyle Moore as the home side went up by four not even halfway through the first period.
They kept coming and got two more quick ones off the sticks of Tyler Peters and another by Walker to extend their cushion to a half dozen.
Voodoos affiliate Baker then capped off an impressive NOJHL debut by scoring twice to go along with a pair of earlier assists to give him four points in just 20 minutes of Jr. A play.
Powassan kept coming in the middle stanza striking three times early on efforts supplied by Peters, Michael Silveri and Aaron Beauchamp as the rout continued.
Nicholas Siracuse added one more for the Voodoos before the second was complete with assists going to Walker and Baker.
The Voodoos finished off the romp in the third getting markers from Siracuse, Peters, Moore and one more from Walker, who like Baker, finished with six points.
Siracuse had five points on the night joining 15 other Powassan skaters who got on the scoresheet at least once.
Mario Cavaliere stopped all 30 attempts he faced to register his first league shutout for the Voodoos.
Joe Sheppard and Matthew Camilleri both saw time in net for the Eskis facing 64 shots in defeat.
