KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners continued their winning ways on home ice Saturday as they used the strength of three Blake Bonnar assists to help them defeat the Powassan Voodoos 3-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Entering the night as winners of 12 in succession at “The Joe”, Kirkland Lake kicked off the night’s scoring 13:17 into the first period on Jordan Michaud’s second tally of the campaign to help send them on their way to victory No. 13 in a row as the home side.

The Gold Miners then extended their lead late in the middle stanza with Vinny DeSanctis picking up his ninth at 18:15.

Getting back into it with just under eight minutes left in regulation, Powassan dashed Kirkland Lake’s Dawson Rodin shutout bid thanks to Brett Shawana’s eighth to make it a one-goal game.

Helping to secure the decision was Sam Ellwood and he added some insurance at 17:08 as his seventh rounded out the evening’s scoring.

Despite giving up the third period marker, Rodin was solid throughout making 33 saves to pick up the win for the Gold Miners.

Joe Vrbetic faced 29 shots in defeat for the Voodoos.
