NOJHL announces its CCM Hockey players of the month for November

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday its respective CCM Hockey player, defenceman, goaltender and rookie of the month for November.

CCM HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE MONTH – TYSON GILMOUR, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS: In nine outings last month for the league-leading Voodoos, Gilmour collected a NOJHL-best 18 points on five goals and 13 assists.

The 19-year-old from East York, Ont., etched his name on the score sheet in eight of those nine contests and is presently riding a seven-game point streak.

The son of Hockey Hall of Fame Honoured Member Doug Gilmour is currently tied for fourth in league scoring with 41 points, which includes a NOJHL-high 28 assists.

Set to play his 80th league game Saturday, Gilmour has registered 102 points in his first 79 match-ups on 36 tallies and 66 helpers.

CCM HOCKEY DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH – DAYTON MURRAY, (D) POWASSAN VOODOOS: Murray was once again a force on both ends of the ice for Powassan helping his side post an impressive 8-1-1 record in November.

The Spruce Grove, Alta., product notched three goals and helped set-up 10 others for his side in the time frame.

Sporting a five-game assist and point streak, Murray tops all NOJHL defencemen in offensive production with 37 points in just 28 games, including 17 goals, which is already one better than the 16 he provided last season for the Voodoos.

His numbers also tie him for seventh overall in league scoring among all skaters while his 10 man advantage markers pace the NOJHL.

This marks the second time this season Murray has garnered monthly top defenceman honours.

CCM HOCKEY GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH – SHAYNE BATTLER, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH: Helping backstop Cochrane to a tie for the best record in the NOJHL in November was the stellar play of Battler.

The 19-year-old netminder, who hails from Oshawa, Ont., went 5-0 for the Crunch last month in six appearances registering a 1.79 goals-against average along with a solid .932 save percentage.

Battler also posted his first NOJHL shutout during the month.

The Cochrane goaltender has won his last five starts and has gone 6-0 in his past seven times in net.

Since joining the Crunch from Powassan back in early October, Battler has a 7-3 record (9-3 overall) with his current club with a 2.53 average and a .915 save mark.

CCM HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE MONTH – TOMAS YACHMENEV, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS: November was a good one for the Voodoos rookie forward.

The 17-year-old Yachmenev, who calls Nashville, Tenn., home, notched six goals and provided eight assists for 14 points this past month and produced one game-winner.

He enters league play this weekend sitting third in scoring among NOJHL rookies averaging over a point-per-game with 29 in 27 outings on 15 tallies and 14 helpers.

His three game-winning markers lead all first-year players in the league.
