NOJHL announces its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Anthony Zolezzi (Soo Eagles); forward Mathieu MacMillan (Powassan Voodoos) and goaltender Dryden Riley (Timmins Rock) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending January 21.

ANTHONY ZOLEZZI, (G) SOO EAGLES: The 19-year-old Naperville, Illinois product led the Eagles to a pair of victories while turning aside 53 shots and allowing only two goals.

Zolezzi started the week with a 21-save 6-1 victory over the Elliot Lake Vikings last Friday.   

However, the Eagles netminder saved his best for Saturday night as he turned away 32 of 33 shots in the Eagles 5-1 win over the first place Blind River Beavers while ending the Beavers season-high 17-game winning streak in the process.  

Through 23 games, Zolezzi has a record of 12 wins, 7 losses and one shootout loss along with a 3.09 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.

MATHIEU MacMILLAN, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS: Leading the Voodoos offensively, MacMillan scored three times and picked up one assist in two shutout victories for the Voodoos over Espanola and Kirkland Lake respectively last week.

The speedy 19-year-old right winger from Gloucester, Ontario started the week strong with two goals and one assist in the Voodoos 5-0 win over the Espanola Paper Kings in Espanola on Friday night.  

MacMillan then added his 19th of the campaign in the Voodoos 5-0 road win over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners giving him 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points in 35 games this season.  

Through his first 76 NOJHL games, MacMillan has collected 31 goals and 43 assists for 74 points.

DRYDEN RILEY, (G) TIMMINS ROCK: Young Timmins Rock netminder Dryden Riley was in goal for a pair of victories for the Rock including a 34-save shutout over the Iroquois Falls Storm on Saturday night earning him star of the week accolades.

The 16-year-old Belleville, Ontario product started the week making 21 of 23 saves in the Rock’s 13-2 convincing win over the visiting Kirkland Lake Gold Miners on Friday night at the McIntyre Arena.

With the two victories, the 2023 11th-round selection of the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League, now has an impressive 14 wins, 2 losses and one overtime loss record in 18 games this season with the Rock.

Riley sits second in the NOJHL in goals against with a 2.34 GAA so far this season.
