Powassan, Cochrane & Timmins all listed in latest CJHL rankings

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is once again well represented in the latest edition of the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Top 20 rankings, which were announced Monday.

Topping the NOJHL contingent this week are the Powassan Voodoos, who were slotted 10th nationally in the 132-team CJHL.

Joining them were the Cochrane Crunch at No. 15 and the Timmins Rock at No. 19.

Powassan has won eight straight games heading into a contest at home tonight vs. Elliot Lake at 7:30 p.m., and currently boasts the best winning percentage in the NOJHL at .806.

Sporting a 14-3-1-0 record in league play, their 29 points leaves them one shy of both Cochrane and the Soo Thunderbirds in the quest for top spot in the overall league standings. They also hold games in hand on the Crunch and T-Birds.

Cochrane presently sits with a 13-3-3-1 mark through 20 outings while fellow NOJHL East Division member Timmins is right in the hunt with 28 points on a 14-4-0-0 record after 18 games.

There was no change among the top two clubs in the CJHL rankings this week with College Francais de Longueuil (QJHL) once again holding down the No. 1 slot while the Steinbach Pistons (MJHL) remains at No. 2.

Rounding out the top five are the 2017 RBC Cup host Cobourg Cougars (OJHL), Georgetown Raiders (OJHL) and Wenatchee Wild (BCHL) in third, fourth and fifth respectively.
