Powassan signs Sudbury Nickel Caps D-man

POWASSAN – The Powassan Voodoos of the NOJHL have signed Sudbury U16 Nickel Capitals defenceman Tyson Rismond, the club announced on Monday.

Rismond, a fourth round selection, 66th overall by the North Bay Battalion this spring, had four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 23 games in the Great North U18 league last season.

Rismond was also part of Team NOHA at the OHL Cup and an invitee to the OHL combine.

“I think it is pretty cool to play at the next level and I know there will be an adjustment to make playing in a faster league against older guys,” said Rismond, a 6’1”, 185 pound left shot defenceman.

Adam Dennis, Battalion general manager, is looking forward watching Rismond develop with their affiliate team in Powassan.

“Tyson is a player we are looking forward to having close to North Bay. He is a smooth skating, physical defenceman that every team needs,” said Dennis about the Chelmsford product.

Chris Dawson, Voodoos general manager, believes Rismond will be a good fit on the Voodoos blue line.

“I’ve seen Tyson play since he was 8, he has continued to develop and improve every year. He’s a big strong skating defender who comes from a great family so he checks off a lot of boxes for us,” said Dawson.

Rismond and the Voodoos are back on the ice on July 9 at Pete Palangio arena for a prospects camp.
