Powassan wins 10th straight with late rally to upend Iroquois Falls in OT

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Trailing by two goals with less than three minutes to play, the Powassan Voodoos stormed back to tie it, then win in overtime, as they shocked the Iroquois Falls Eskis 4-3 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.

Iroquois Falls got off to a great start grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period of play thanks to power play markers from Dillan Bruce and Josh Dejulio.

A man advantage allowed Powassan to secure the lone goal of the second stanza as Andy Baker picked up his 19th of the season at 9:17.

Heading into the third, the Eskis went back up by two with 8:22 to go as Bruce notched his second of the night and 14th overall.

Gary Mantz then started the Powassan comeback with two and a half minutes left as he also extended a consecutive game point streak to 16 in the process.

Baker then forced extra time at 18:43 as he reached the 20-goal plateau on the season.

The Voodoos then capped off the come from behind victory to win their 10th straight as Parker Bowman supplied the game-winner at 2:33 of the first OT to end it.

It marked Bowman’s second extra time difference maker this season.

Nicholas Campbell made 35 saves to record the decision for the Voodoos.

Artem Bortovskiy faced 53 shots in defeat for Iroquois Falls.
