POWASSAN, Ont. – The visiting Timmins Rock stormed back from a two-goal deficit by striking four times in the third period to pull-out a 5-3 victory over the Powassan Voodoo Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.
A fast-paced opening 20 minutes saw each side generate opportunities, but could not find the back of the net, through one.
On the power play to begin the second stanza, Timmins capitalized moments in as Mason Svarich took a Harry Clark pass, then spun around at the top of the left circle where he wired a shot high over the glove on Powassan netminder Daniel Dirracolo.
Special teams then helped the Voodoos tie it and take the lead with man advantage efforts of their own.
Ryan Patrick was left with an open side to snap in his 11th of the season at 4:13, while Rhys Smetham converted by burying one from the left of Rock goalkeeper Patrick Boivin, three and a half minutes later.
Taking a 3-1 lead into the second intermission, Powassan’s Caden Dubreuil slammed in a cross-crease feed from Mathieu MacMillan at 17:39.
Action in the third saw Timmins strike moments in while up a skater as Clark blew through the Powassan defence and made a couple of impressive moves prior to lifting in a backhand over the pad of Dirracolo at the 11-second mark.
The Rock’s league-leading power play converted once more to knot the affair at 3-3 as Liam Wells knocked in a rebound off a Svarich attempt from up top.
Timmins kept coming and went in front with 11:09 remaining thanks to Svarich, who took a Clark drop pass and ripped it into the top right-hand corner.
Completing the comeback in the final minute, Hayden Rynard darted down the ice and finished off the scoring into an empty net to wrap things up.
The win moves the Rock’s record to 22-9-2-0 and in defeat, the Voodoos fell to 19-12-0-2.
